"Learning and Growing Together"

Year 6

Welcome to Year 6

I am Miss Toms and I'm delighted to be teaching Year 6 this year.

The children have all settled in well and are looking forward to the year ahead.

In our class we are supported by Mrs Kotseva.

This term our topics are Electrical Circuits and Frozen Kingdoms.

We have P.E twice a week on a Monday and Friday.

Spring Term Learning

This term in English we will be using the books ‘Skellig’ and ‘The Arrival’ as a focus for our writing. We will have extra practise with our handwriting and spelling of Year 6 common exception words. In Reading we will continue to read individually and as a group, developing our Vocabulary, Inference, Prediction, Explaining and Sequencing skills.

In Maths we will be focusing on multiplying and dividing decimals. Then we will be moving onto Ratios, Percentages, Algebra, Area and Perimeter.

In Science we will be learning about electrical circuits, their components and how they function. We will investigate how voltage of cells affects the output of a circuit and how to record circuits using standard symbols.

We will be learning about blogging and exploring what the internet is in computing.

Our Geography topic this term will focus on our Frozen Kingdoms. The children will develop their knowledge of the characteristics and features of polar regions, including the North and South Poles, exploring in detail the environmental factors that shape and influence them.

In Art and D.T the children will be looking at significant engineers and bridges, focussing on strengthening techniques by building prototypes.

We will be taking part in the PSHCE Curriculum and completing the topics: ‘Dreams and Goals’ and ‘Healthy Me’.

In R.E we will be asking ‘Is anything ever eternal?’ and ‘Is Christianity still a strong religion 2000 years after Jesus was on Earth?’.
