Year 5 will be taught this term by Miss Lawson, and supported by Mrs Kelly.
This term our topic is Sow, Grow and Farm.
We have P.E on a Monday and swimming on a Wednesday.
Spring Term Learning
This term in English, we will be reading different books such as The House With Chicken Legs, Clockwork Crow and Journey to the River Sea to learn reading strategies such as inference, prediction and summarising. In writing lessons, we will be exploring limericks, warning tales, contemporary poetry and report writing. We will be concentrating on sentence structure, embedding our understanding of relative clauses and parenthesis, learning about modal verbs and ensuring cohesion within our pieces.
In Maths, we are continuing to learn strategies for multiplication. We will be learning to divide with and without remainders, solve multi-step word problems, read data in tables and line graphs, and explore how to find equivalent fractions, compare and order fractions, add and subtract fractions, and multiply fractions by whole numbers.
In Science, we will be learning about animal and human life cycles, classifying mammals, describing changes in humans from infant to old age, and identifying main changes during puberty.
We will be learning about databases and coding games in Computing.
Our Geography topic this term is called Sow, Grow and Farm. This project will teach children about the features and characteristics of land use in agricultural regions across the world, including a detailed exploration of significant environmental areas.
In Art and D.T, the children will be learning about the visual qualities of line, light and shadow. They will look at the works of Picasso and Rembrandt. They will also learn about the meaning and benefits of seasonal eating, food preparation and cooking techniques.
In PSHE, we are completing the topics: ‘Dreams and Goals’ and ‘Healthy Me.
In R.E we will be exploring the questions ‘Are Sikh stories important today?’ and ‘How significant is it for Christians to believe that God intended Jesus to die?.
In PE, we will have a sports coach, as well as swimming lessons.
