"Learning and Growing Together"
Welcome to Year 3
I am Mrs Rothstein and I teach in Year 3.
The children have all settled in well and we are looking forward to the year ahead.
In our class we are supported by Mrs Lyall and Mrs Ruddin.
We have P.E on a Monday.
We will continue our topic on Trolls – using this to develop both our information and story writing.
Through this topic, we will develop our punctuation and grammar skills, and focus on improving our
handwriting and the presentation of our work.
We will continue to grow our knowledge of phonics and spellings.
Progressing our reading fluency and reading comprehension will also be a major part of this half term’s learning.
A key focus of this half term will be to learn out times tables by heart, focusing on the 2, 5, 10, 3, 4 & 8 times tables.
We will develop out fluency with them so that we can recall them quickly. We will be applying our knowledge of the times tables to solve multiplication and division word problems.
We will be learning about the different types of rocks and soils. We will find out how different types of rocks are formed and look at their make-up. We will also investigate fossils and the contribution of Mary Anning to the field of palaeontology.
This links to our Geography curriculum – we will be developing our abilities at sketching ammonite fossils.
We will be learning how to give directions using 8 points of a compass.
We are learning to retell stories about when miracles might have happened and question whether or not Jesus really did perform miracles.
Our topic for this half term is Dreams and Goals. We will learn about what motivates us to achieve more, and how to take steps to overcome obstacles.
We will be learning how to write code.
