We will be focusing on capital letters, full stops, finger spaces, making sure our sentences make sense, and using our sounds to spell. We will continue to focus on our handwriting and spelling of Year 1 and 2 common exception words.

In Reading, we will continue to read individually and as a group, developing our vocabulary, decoding skills, prosody (reading with meaning, stress and intonation) and comprehension (understanding the text).

In Maths, we will continue focusing on length and Mass. We will then move on to Temperature. Where the children will learn about Celsius, how to read thermometers to help them understand, and they will look at the different kinds of temperatures we can measure. Finally, we will look at Pictograms. Where the children will will learn how to read, interpret, analyse and construct their own picture graphs with confidence.

In Science, we will be learning about uses of Materials.

This links to Design and Technology, where we will be focusing on the topic ‘Beach Hut’. This project teaches children about making and strengthening structures, including different ways of joining materials.

In Computing, we will be learning about Questioning, this unit is designed to help children learn about the importance of phrasing questions and that certain data-handling resources are limited in the answers they can provide.

Our Geography topic this term will focus on the Coastline. This project teaches children about the physical and human features of coastal regions across the United Kingdom, including a detailed exploration of the coastal town of Whitby, in Yorkshire.

In Art, the children will be learning about the visual elements of flowers, including shape, texture, colour, pattern and form. They also explore various artistic methods, including drawing, printmaking and 3-D forms, using paper and clay.

We will be taking part in the PSCHE Curriculum and completing the topics: ‘Dreams and Goals’ and ‘Healthy Me’.

In R.E, we will be looking at if praying at regular intervals help a Muslim in his/her everyday life. We will be learning to explain what commitment means to us and to Muslims by knowing about why Muslims pray 5 times a day.

In PE, we will be focusing on Gymnastics and Yoga.

In Music, we will be studying the song ‘I Wanna Play in a Band’. In this song, the children learn about singing and playing together in an ensemble. As well as learning to sing, play, improvise and compose with this song, children will listen and appraise classic Rock songs.
