"Learning and Growing Together"

Welcome to Nursery

My name is Mrs Weaver and I am delighted to be teaching Nursery this year.

The children are settling in well and are looking forward to an exciting year ahead!

The class is supported by Mrs Rodricks each morning.

This term our topics are Me and My Community and Exploring Autumn.

We have PE on Friday morning. Children will not require a PE kit for the first half term and we will send you a letter out nearer the time regarding requirements for PE kit for Autumn 2.

Autumn Term Learning

Our topic this half term will be Me and My Community. This project supports children with settling into the new rules and routines of school and encourages them to make new friends and feel confident in their class. It teaches children about being helpful, kind and thoughtful at home and at school. This project also teaches children how they are unique and special, the importance of friendship and how people in their family, school and local community are important and can help them.

In Autumn 2, the topic will be Exploring Autumn.  This project teaches children about the natural changes that happen during the season of autumn, including how the weather changes, why trees lose their leaves and how wild animals prepare for winter.

This half term in English, we will be initially focussing on rhymes and patterns of nursery rhymes, followed by Dear Zoo.  Children will begin to understand predictable phrasing in stories, as well as learning how to retell and innovate it with new ideas.

In Autumn 2, we will be introducing Fairy Stories such as The Three Little Pigs.

Our Phonics learning will begin with listening games, copying musical patterns and recognising initial sounds in words.

This term in Maths we will be focusing on learning how to create repeating patterns as well as developing a knowledge of 2D shapes and a range of number songs.

For our PSED topic, we will focus on self-regulation as well as building new relationships and being able to follow our rules and routines.

In Art and DT we will cultivate an imaginative and expressive approach, investigating, for example, the changing colours of Autumn whilst exploring a wide range of media linked to our cross-curricular learning.

If you would like to speak to me about your child’s learning please contact the school office and I will be in contact.
