Our topic is Celebrations and Festivals.
This week’s theme is Talk 4 Writing (Week 3 – Shared Innovation) = Whatever Next!
Celebrations = Christmas
The Book of the Week is: Whatever Next! by Jill Murphy.
A Letter to Santa by Gaby Goldsack.
Christmas Week – The children will be consolidating their learning of the Phase 2 Phonics and using them in Christmas activities. They will be bringing home a Christmas Phonics booklet to practice between now and the new year. Keep the booklet at home and do some as and when the children are interested.
Writing – practice writing simple 3 letter CVC words (Consonant-Vowel-Consonant) using the letters they know. Make it Christmas related e.g. hat, log, cup, box, sack.
Can they sound out and write Santa?
Can they write their own list for Santa?
Can they label some Christmas pictures with their initial sound?
Can they try and write the words for the Christmas pictures?
This week we will be looking at Father Christmas around the world and the different names he is called. We will be considering different traditions associated with Christmas such as Christmas presents then and now, Christmas cards and Christmas trees. Please talk to your child about your family traditions.
We would love to hear about any different traditions or customs our children share in!
